Born in Nashville, Tennessee in 1963, Charles Randolph is known as one of Hollywood's most original voices. Randolph, who started his career in the television world, gradually moved into the cinema industry and gained a solid place for himself. He made his first notable contribution to the big screen with 2003's Between Life and Death. This philosophical thriller starring Kevin Spacey reflected Randolph's interest in ethical dilemmas and human nature. Two years later, he wrote the script of The Translator, which brought together Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn; This production, an international thriller, proved his proficiency in different genres. However, the work that truly took Randolph to the top was 2015's The Big Open. This film, which he wrote together with Adam McKay, revealed the behind-the-scenes of the 2008 global economic crisis with a sharp language and creative narrative structure. The film earned the duo nominations for adapted screenplay at the Academy Awards, BAFTA and Golden Globes. Randolph won the Oscar for this movie.
