Georges Flamant

Georges Flamant, who was born in 1903 in Tunisia, the capital of Tunisia, is one of the characters of French cinema who remained relatively in the shadows but left their mark. Flamant, who started her stage life at an early age, managed to attract attention with her unique charisma and natural acting style. The production that engraved its name in golden letters in the history of cinema was The Female Dog, directed by Jean Renoir in 1931. Originally titled La Chienne, this poetically realistic psychological drama, starring Flamant as André "Dédé" Govain, was one of the boldest films of the period. The film, which was banned from being shown in the United States for many years due to its content, was only able to meet American audiences at the New York Film Festival in 1975. Even this delayed acceptance reveals what a shocking work the film is. The character played by Flamant in this film has an indelible place in the memory of French cinema. Flamant, who played important roles in various productions throughout the rest of her career, gave a strong performance as Amédée in the 1938 film L'Étrange Monsieur Victor. The actress, who starred in the Spanish production Angélica in 1939, went beyond the boundaries of French cinema and stepped into international projects. During the productive period of French cinema during the war years, he also appeared in films such as Feu sacré and Une femme dans la nuit. Flamant, who remained active in the 1950s and 60s, took part in a production that made a big impact on the big screen for the last time with the role of Bigey in the 400 Blows directed by François Truffaut, following productions such as Opération Magali and Trois jours à vivre. Appearing in this film, considered one of the masterpieces of the French new wave, was a fitting crowning of his long and versatile career. Georges Flamant died in July 1990.
