Born in Tehran in 1974, Shahab Hosseini has become one of the most recognized faces of Iranian cinema in the international arena. The actor, whose career attracted attention with nominations at the Fajr Film Festival, made his name known to a wide audience in 2008 by winning the Best Actor award, the Crystal Simurg, at this festival with his performance in the movie Superstar. He made the big leap thanks to the artistic partnership he established with Asghar Farhadi. Hosseini, who attracted attention with his role as Ahmad in Farhadi's 2009 film About Elly, continued this collaboration with A Separation in 2011. Hosseini, who brought the character of Hojjat to life in this film, for which Farhadi won many prestigious awards such as the Golden Bear and the Oscar, skillfully reflected social tensions and human inner conflict. The two also met at The Vendor in 2016; Playing the role of Emad Etesami, Hosseini received the Best Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival for this production. The Salesman was also awarded Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars that year. Hosseini, who left a strong impression in the field of television as well as his cinema career, reached a large fan base in Iran with the TV series Shahrzad, which was broadcast in 2015. This period series, in which he played the character of Ghobad Divansalar, was accepted by the masses with both its narrative quality and acting performances. The actor, who also opened the door to international projects, took on the role of Şems-i Tebrizi in the 2024 production Mevlana: Mest-i Aşk and became involved in the story of a different geography. Hosseini, who has achieved a strong line both commercially and artistically in his career spanning decades, continues to be one of the most important representatives of Iranian cinema on the world stage.
