Born in Tehran in 1972, Leyla Khatami grew up surrounded by art as the child of one of the most established families of Iranian cinema. His mother is the famous actress Zeri Hoşkam and his father is the respected director Ali Hatemi. Hatemi, who grew up in this deep-rooted art environment, managed to make a strong name for himself in the industry over time. Although he appeared in small roles in the early stages of his career, he made his big breakthrough in the international arena with the movie A Separation directed by Asghar Ferhadi. Hatemi, who played the character of Simin in this production, which was released in 2011, gave a performance that was both deep and fragile.
