Swankie
Details

Coming from a true nomadic life, Swankie is one of the rare names who stepped into the cinema by completely staying outside of Hollywood's professional actor training system. Although her real name is different, this woman, known as Swankie in nomadic communities, lived all over America for years with her caravan and pickup truck. His meeting with cinema was the product of a search for an intimate moment rather than a coincidence. While working on Nomadland, director Chloé Zhao did not settle for professional actors in order to reflect real nomadic life; He included Swankie in the cast of the film, along with names such as Linda May and Bob Wells. In Nomadland, which was released in 2021, Swankie appeared on the screen with his own name and his own story. Swankie, who spoke with a gravity distilled from her real life in the bonding scene with the character Fern, played by Frances McDormand, left a deep impression on the audience despite its short duration. Playing a woman who is aware of her illness and wants to experience the beauty of nature before death was actually largely her own reality. Nomadland earned Chloé Zhao multiple Oscars, including Best Director and Best Picture; Frances McDormand received the Best Actress award. The film was also awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. As a partner in these successes, Swankie, even though he had a limited professional career, reminded us of the most powerful aspect of cinema: sometimes the most impressive performance comes from a life lived itself.
