Born in Tehran in 1979, Sareh Bayat is known as one of the leading actresses of Iranian cinema and television. Bayat, who started his career in theater in 2001, started appearing in television series in 2007 after completing his acting education, and became a notable name in the international arena with his transition to cinema. He made his big breakthrough with the movie A Separation directed by Asghar Farhadi. Bayat, who played the character of Razieh in this 2011 film, received great acclaim both in Iran and around the world for her performance. The film won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 2012, and Bayat was among the actors who contributed significantly to the international success of this work. A Separation also won major awards at the Berlin Film Festival and became one of the groundbreaking productions in cinema. Bayat came to the fore with two more important films in 2015.
