Don MacPherson

Details

Born in the cold northern English weather of Durham in 1954, Don MacPherson managed to stand out as one of the quiet but influential figures of British television and film. MacPherson, who has brought striking stories to both the big screen and television throughout his career, treated screenwriting not as a purely technical profession, but as a real art of expression. He made his first big breakthrough with 1986's Absolute Beginners. This musical film, directed by Julien Temple, became one of the most remarkable British productions of its time, conveying the London of the late 1950s in a colorful and energetic language. In this project, MacPherson demonstrated his talents in dialogue writing and screenplay adaptation. Continuing his career with productions such as The Big Man in 1990 and Fallen Angels in 1993, MacPherson proved his masterful command of different genres and atmospheres. Tatlı Sert, which he wrote in 1998, was warmly received by the audience with its fresh perspective on British comedy. One of his most notable works in television was the 2014 film Fleming. This mini-series, about the youth and war period of Ian Fleming, the creator of James Bond, clearly demonstrated MacPherson's interest in biographical narrative and the importance he gave to historical details. Years later, the screenwriter, who returned to the action genre with The Trigger in 2015, once again showed that he could use his pen successfully in different genres. In 2022, he became a partner in an international project, working with Ron Howard in Thirteen Lives, which brought the Tham Luang Cave rescue operation, a real tragedy, to the big screen. This film was a beautiful reflection of MacPherson's mature narrative style and deep interest in human stories. Maintaining a consistent and original screenwriter identity over the decades makes him one of the respected names of British film writing.
