Al Reinert
Details

American writer and documentary filmmaker Al Reinert was born in Tokyo in 1947. His career journey, nourished by his roots in journalism, has gradually made him one of Hollywood's most original screenwriters. His deep interest in space history marked both the starting point and the peak of his career. The first big step that made Reinert's name known to large audiences was the documentary work he prepared with raw footage compiled from NASA archives. This work, which was the product of years of research and editing, was a concrete reflection of the effort to convey the Apollo missions from a human perspective. This knowledge was transferred to screenwriting with Apollo 13, directed by Ron Howard. This 1995 film attracted great attention from both critics and audiences by bringing one of the most dramatic moments in space history to the big screen. Reinert, William Broyles Jr. He gained a solid place in Hollywood with this script he wrote together with. HBO's From Earth to the Moon was the most prominent example of Reinert's adaptation of his space-themed storytelling approach to the television format. This mini-series, also produced by Tom Hanks, presented the broad panorama of the Apollo program to the audience and caused a great stir when it was broadcast. Reinert contributed to the scripts of more than one episode in this project. A more unusual link in his career was 2001's Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. Reinert, who co-contributed to the script of this animated film produced entirely with computer graphics, revealed that he did not confine himself to a certain genre or form. Al Reinert, who passed away on the last day of 2018, left behind a strong legacy that blended curiosity in space exploration with the language of cinema.
