Those familiar with the cinema of Wes Anderson know: there is a carefully placed symmetry in every frame, a witty wit in every dialogue, a deliberate poetics in every color. The Grand Budapest Hotel is perhaps the most mature and captivating expression of this aesthetic. Anderson doesn't just tell a story here; he paints a sad portrait of a world that has vanished. The film takes place in the strange, fragile atmosphere of Decadent Europe between the two wars. Magnificent hotels, elegant noblemen, magnificent works of art... But underneath all this splendor there is a crackling civilization. Anderson conveys this tension in a language that is both funny and deeply melancholic. While watching the movie, you smile, but you also feel a bitterness silently building up behind that smile. At the center of the story is the legendary superintendent of the Grand Budapest Hotel Gustave H. there is a relationship between him and the young bellboy Zero. Dec. The bond between these two characters goes far beyond an ordinary master-apprentice relationship, as it Decrees from the fact that two very different souls find each other in the middle of a chaotic world. Ralph Fiennes plays Gustave H. with such nuance and charisma that it's almost impossible to forget this performance. Fiennes strikes a perfect balance on the fine line of personality: both funny and dignified, both vulnerable and majestic. The film's visual language also offers an experience in itself. It's as if you're looking at a book of animated illustrations; the color palettes, frame compositions, and decor choices present each scene as if it were a painting. However, this aesthetic spectacle does not alleviate the emotional weight of the story; on the contrary, it makes it even more poignant. The Grand Budapest Hotel is essentially a story of loss. It is fueled by a profound grief over the loss of culture, politeness, and a certain art of living. Anderson tells this story not directly, but by hiding it behind elegant humor and visual poetry. After watching the film, it's not just colorful paintings or ridiculous scenes that remain in your mind; it's a naive and fragile longing for a beauty that has passed away.

Yet another well crafter Wes Anderson's movie. Fiennes and Revolori perform well and the amount of well known actors and actresses is incredible but we have seen similar ways and scripts in his previous movies. It's entertaining, though.

Wes Anderson's THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL is the director's celebration of Central Europe culture and fashion in the years between the World Wars, and an elegy for what was lost with the rise of fascism and communism. Set in 1932 in a fictional country called Zubrowka, the streets, military regalia and (ersatz) German names we are shown could have come from anywhere between Germany and Estonia. Its protagonist Gustave H. (Ralph Fiennes) is a concierge at the eponymous luxury hotel, the splendour o...
