Some stories push boundaries not to offend the audience, but to be honest. The increasingly bold narrative language of Philippine cinema is once again evident in the 2024 film Rita. Directed by Jerry Lopez Sineneng, this 113-minute drama takes the audience far beyond the usual love stories by focusing on the emotional complexity and undefinable regions of relationships. Christine Bermas's performance in the lead role forms the backbone of the film. Bermas brings both sympathetic and controversial depth to the character of Rita by delivering an acting performance that simultaneously conveys fragility and determination.
