What happens when a past trapped in London's concrete and steel cage begins to breathe again after years? A Second World War relic unexploded bomb discovered deep in a busy construction site ignites the fuse of not only a physical threat, but a much darker secret. David Mackenzie places his camera at the heart of this city and reveals how irregular the pulse beating there actually is. Those who know Mackenzie know that the director builds tension not only through action sequences but also through the pressure that builds within the characters. The same mastery demonstrated in Hell or High Water is evident here too: the crowd, the noise, the panic, and a conspiracy that moves silently amidst it all. With the evacuation order, the city, where hundreds of thousands of people were forced out, simultaneously transforms into an incredible open door. And for whom? Aaron Taylor-Johnson has proven in recent years that he has established a unique balance of toughness and vulnerability in the roles he has taken on. Here too, a similar tension exists; everything written on his face implies the exact opposite of what he says. Theo James, on the other hand, provides him with an unexpected point of balance. The relationship between the two quietly shapes the backbone of the film. Dec. Gugu Mbatha-Raw's performance adds both emotional depth and intelligence to the narrative. The film explores themes of paranoia and surveillance in keeping with the spirit of the era. In a city surrounded by technological surveillance mechanisms, the feeling that people are being watched even at their most vulnerable moments never goes away. Therefore, the tension stems not only from the bomb itself, but also from who knows what and who is hiding what. The emotional pattern woven around father-son and mother-son relationships adds an unexpected warmth to the cold surface of the action. Proceeding at a narrative pace that will keep you on the edge of your seat for ninety-six minutes, the film blends classic elements of conspiracy cinema with a modern sensibility. The fine line between betrayal and trust is redrawn in every scene of this film, and you never quite know which side you're on. When the final curtain falls, you can't help but think about the details you didn't notice when you looked back.

When an unexploded WWII bomb is discovered right next door to London's Paddington railway station, the police race to evacuate the locale and to cordon everything off ready for the army bomb disposal team. That unit is commanded by 'Maj. Tranter' (Aaron Taylor-Johson), a veteran of the conflict in Afghanistan, who swiftly sets up safe zones and informs the chief superintendent (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) that this is a live device that might take a while to make safe. Meantime, somewhat serendipitously, a...
