Grief sometimes traps a person within four walls; at other times, on the contrary, it plunges them into the embrace of boundless brutality. The female character played by Charlize Theron is one of those who chose exactly this second path. This solo journey into the untouched, brutal geography of Australia may initially seem like an effort at recovery, but soon it turns into something else: a battle for survival. Baltasar Kormákur, a director who throughout his career has explored human helplessness and resistance in the face of nature, is an extremely suitable name for this project. The tense, breathtaking rhythm that shines through in films as diverse as *Everest* and *2 Guns* is also felt here. The camera language, which presents the wilderness as both a paradise and a trap, draws the viewer into the psychological duality experienced by the character. The film's real strength lies in the fact that it is not merely a cat-and-mouse game. Yes, there is a dangerous and calculating hunter at play; the presence of Taron Egerton and Eric Bana in the cast adds significant weight to this tension equation. However, Apex gives the impression of a film that uses action as a tool, with its central theme being loss and rebirth. Theron's character's inner journey is intertwined with the physical danger outside; a river moving by canoe, a rock surface being climbed are not only scenes, but also metaphors. The visual splendor of Australia's wilderness is undoubtedly the film's strongest asset. Vast plains, steep cliffs, and endless silence create an atmosphere where the threat could come from anywhere at any time. This geography behaves almost like a character; sometimes protective, sometimes hostile. With a runtime of 96 minutes, Apex is a film that doesn't drag itself out unnecessarily and focuses directly on its subject matter. This film, which consumes the viewer both physically and emotionally, but at the same time keeps the sense of curiosity alive, seems to be a candidate to become one of the productions that will stand out in terms of thriller cinema of 2026.

Predictible. A silly and boring film, unfortunately. It could have been interesting but the landscape was the most interesting thing in the film.

This might not be the most original thing in the world, but it is executed well and the characters are relatable enough to build tension. That makes the moments of fright more engaging and leaves you ultimately quite satisfied. The casting is fantastic, and of course the locales where this is shot are breathtaking. It's really not a bad movie, and I recommend it.

Just awful. I feel like I have already seen this movie a thousand times, and I did NOT even finish it. Predictable, with no story. No connection to the characters. SKIP THIS ONE!

Checkout my full review @ https://www.manuelsbento.com/apex-2026-primal-thrills-and-physical-prowess-elevate-a-familiar-survival-formula/ Rating: B APEX is a remarkably solid, propulsive survival thriller that knows exactly what it wants to achieve and delivers on all fronts. Charlize Theron's extraordinary physicality and commitment to her own stunts are jaw-dropping, while Taron Egerton brings a wonderfully unhinged energy to their intense, high-stakes dynamic.
