The Pursuit of Happyness
Details

Gabriele Muccino tells the story of holding on to a life spent under the bright lights of San Francisco, in the shadow of debt and despair. Adapted from a real life story, this film brings to the screen the difficult test that a salesman named Chris Gardner went through with his son. After his wife's separation, Gardner, who became a father, a homeless man, and an intern, is forced to carry three different identities at the same time; He puts on his suit every morning, drops his son off at daycare, and then runs, literally runs, to survive. Will Smith gives one of the most mature performances of his career in this role. The father-son chemistry he establishes with his real son, Jaden Smith, creates a strong sense of reality behind the sincerity reflected on the screen. The small moments between the two tell the audience much more than the big dramatic explosions. The film looks not only at the bright side of the American dream, but also at the price of that dream. He masterfully examines how the effort to tear down the walls of success can both erode and reinforce human dignity. Muccino manages to maintain emotional intensity without slipping into melodrama; It convincingly conveys the resilience of a father without falling into sentimental traps. Heavy themes such as homelessness, poverty and inequality of opportunity never take on the tone of a didactic lesson. Instead, these truths are felt through a person's eyes. It's the kind of movie that walks alongside the audience rather than overwhelming it, takes your breath away from time to time, but makes you want to believe in something in the end.
