The Shadow's Edge

Details

捕风追影

When a man who had retreated into the quiet of retirement finds his past resurface, a much darker game begins under the bright lights of Macau. The word "retired" has never been literally applicable to someone who was tracking in the shadows of the city many years ago, making the invisible visible through cameras. This time, Jackie Chan brings to life a character who exists through the power of silence rather than the noise of action. When Wong Tak-Chung enters the stage, he is not someone who throws punches; he is someone who thinks, waits, and calculates. The maturity that Chan brings to this interpretation is one of the biggest surprises of the film: he skillfully reveals how dangerous a body that bears the scars of years can still be, both physically and mentally. The story uses Macau not as a backdrop for an ordinary action film, but almost as a character. Surveillance networks installed between casinos and high-rise buildings, hacked camera systems and Decryption traces take the tension of the film to a much deeper level than just fights. In the digital age, the question of how a criminal can be everywhere and nowhere at the same time becomes central to the narrative. The antagonist known by the nickname "The Shadow" seems to be the most concrete answer to this question; Tony Leung Ka-fai's performance transforms the opponent from an abstract threat into a concrete and accountable entity. The bridge between the younger generation and the older generation is not limited to generational conflict alone. The young police officer played by Zhang Zifeng serves both as a balancing element and the emotional center of gravity in the story. The dynamic between the two characters fuels the film's breathing spaces between action scenes. Director Yang Zi keeps the 142-minute runtime filled with both action and suspense while surprisingly maintaining a balanced pace. Some scenes are truly breathtaking; but the real impact comes from the atmosphere of uncertainty built up before those scenes. The questions of who is watching whom, who is betraying whom, drive the audience to the edge of their seats, and the answers do not come when expected.

Jackie Chan's full of awesomeness! Non-stop riveting action with new kids' showing off their karate moves & a woman power your shy lady (who's dad passed away). The story's full of suspense, you need to pay attention to the fast karate, the 'secret' evil guy; sooo sad also. I'm so happy to see Jackie & all the new kids in the block! Congrats to all the team of this movie! Now, you all go out and watch it, sooo worth it!

Right from the outset, this doesn’t hang about as a near perfectly executed crypto robbery is carried out by a gang of young men in Macau. Despite mobilising the police and the several thousand cameras located across the city, the cops are short on clues so they draft in retired “Wong” (Jackie Chan) whose meticulous approach to his work soon leads them to suspect that the legendary “Shadow” is masterminding a group of ninja-esque men who are masters of disguise, martial arts and technology. He d...

"The Shadows Edge" is yet another Hong Kong action thriller starring the actor named number one with movie fans in the region, Jackie Chan. This film is good but its by no means great. Chan is a cop called back from retirement, when modern policing techniques conspicuously fail to catch, an ageing criminal, an expert in counter surveillance and his talented team of young cyber thieves. Actions plentiful, with Chan's trademark, creative flair, using the environment and everyday items, as d...
