Kıyma: Hain Eşer Kendi Düşer
Details

Although starting over after prison may seem like the kind of test that can happen to even the most ordinary person, Mesut's story leaves this stereotype behind in a short time. A hotel inherited from his father, the dream of a four-star establishment, and on top of that, an unexpected love affair right in the middle of it all... Directed by Kadri Beran Taşkın, this comedy looks like a fun adventure where ridiculous situations are lined up one after the other on the surface, but in fact it tells something much more familiar: how trying to please both yourself and the people around you at the same time drags a person into an impossible vortex. The inclusion of Ali Sürmeli, a long-standing figure in Turkish comedy, in the cast is a sign that the film is trying to strike a balance across generations. Onur Akbay, on the other hand, walks that delicate line while portraying Mesut; he is a character who is both sympathetic and deepens his own predicament. While the side characters formed by Irfan Balli, Kerem Ali Yengüner and Gokhan Othercibasi add color to the narrative, Gamze, played by Melis Özçimen, stands out as the most key figure of the film that upsets the balances. The efforts made to increase the hotel's star rating, external inspections, and a Hamlet play prepared during the same period... When all of this goes together, the turmoil that ensues not only makes you laugh, but also gently reminds you that small Decouples can cause big wounds. Heavy themes such as jealousy, betrayal and domestic power struggle do not weigh heavily at all in this film; on the contrary, with that lithe comedic touch, he shows his ability to make the audience think without disturbing them. It is not without reason that it is based on the proverb in its title. "The traitor falls on his own" is not just a saying; it is a moral backdrop permeating the entire film. Who is trying to manipulate whom, who can truly remain honest, and who ultimately falls into the trap they set themselves? These questions linger in people's minds throughout the journey. This 2026-made Turkish comedy offers Turkish audiences both a familiar and fresh experience. Let's see if Mesut's hotel can really reach four stars.
