Some stories really grip you not while you're watching, but after they're finished. Spanish director Belén Cortiña Hevia's 2026 film offers exactly this kind of experience. Even with its title, Presagio, which means "bad news" or "ominous sign", it gives the audience a subtle warning of what to expect. The main character, played by Alba Esgueva Hernández, is dragged into a spiral of tension by the small but unsettling details she notices as she moves through the routines of daily life. Supported by the strong performances of Eva Manjón, Raúl Sáez and Natalia Jara, this cast spreads the emotional intensity of the film equally into every scene. Although the relationships between the characters seem superficial, an underlying tension constantly makes its presence felt. Cortiña Hevia weaves the atmosphere slowly, rather than pushing the narrative into a rushed tempo. Small ambiguities hidden within the images keep the audience one step behind the story and leave the sense of curiosity alive and sharp. Rather than fitting into classical thriller patterns, the film mixes the human depth of the drama genre with the gloomy climate of tension. This production, which comes out of Spain and speaks with a different cinema language, does not only tell the audience the anatomy of a bad premonition; It also makes us question how we look at the things we see and to what extent we trust our intuition. Presagio is a film that does not leave the audience in a passive position, on the contrary, it forces them to remain constantly active and alert.
