Growth begins not only with advancing age; it begins with the heart truly breaking for the first time. This extraordinary production, in which Jeanne Moreau takes the director's chair, examines precisely this fragile threshold. Moreau, who has become one of the icons of French cinema with his acting career, deals with the female experience with the same sensitivity behind the camera and tries to subtly convey the chaotic, uncertain world of youth. The film tells the story of a young girl's inner transformation during her summer vacation. This trip set in a rural setting may seem like an ordinary holiday memory from the outside, but the storm that breaks out in the mind and heart of the young character is extremely real and intense. The enthusiasm given by first love, the seemingly meaningless Decrees of the world of the elders and the turmoil brought about by the search for identity stand out among the themes embroidered into the texture of the film. Simone Signoret's maturity and Laetitia Chauveau's childlike vulnerability create an intriguing intergenerational tension on screen. The dynamic between these two women forms the main backbone of the film; one is looking into the past, the other is looking into the future, one is facing regrets, the other does not yet know what to lose Dec. Edith Clever's strict and distant interpretation adds a completely different weight to this equation. Moreau's directorial approach prefers to find what lies hidden within quiet moments rather than in major dramatic conflicts. Although this approach sometimes makes the film seem static, it also gives it a unique poetic quality. The true story reveals itself in the characters' gazes, the unfinished sentences, and the gaps between long-shot scenes. This portrait of growth, drawn through the eyes of a young female director, bears the imprint of European arthouse cinema of the period. The film, which eschews commercial concerns and opts for an introspective and often melancholic narrative, offers an emotional reward to the patient viewer. It may be challenging for those who are used to the fast pace, but it offers a naive refuge for those who want to be able to deeply feel those brief, never-coming-back moments of youth.
