Marvel One-Shot: All Hail the King
Details
The Marvel Cinematic Universe's short film series, One-Shot, has become a collection that remains overshadowed by the main films but holds little treasures for curious viewers. Directed by Drew Pearce, this fourteen-minute production is exactly that kind of surprise; it is both a nod to the past and a hint to the future. Trevor Slattery, played by Ben Kingsley, ended up in prison after the events of Iron Man 3 and unknowingly became a nationwide phenomenon. With his unique, complex personality and quirky charisma, he attracted the attention of both other prisoners and large audiences through the cameras. While the documentarian, played by Scoot McNairy, knocks on the prison door to document this unusual fame, the viewer is invited into the absurd but so funny world of the character through this interview. The tone of the production brings to the forefront the sharp sense of humor that the MCU sometimes relegates to the background. This short film, which intertwines the serious with the ridiculous, contains a surprise thriller or an unexpected joke in every scene; it contains not only the adventure of a character, but also an important signal about a wider and darker corner of the Marvel universe. For those who notice this signal, the production takes on a much deeper meaning than a mere one-off revisit of an ordinary character. Sam Rockwell's brief but striking appearance reinforces the film's distinctive flavor. This small production, decorated with familiar faces, approaches the characters with a freedom that big budget productions cannot; it is offered as a special reward to the audience who really wants to get to know them, who enjoys exploring the universe to the smallest detail. This short film, which is a perfect testament to how fourteen minutes can be enough, is definitely a must-watch stopover for those interested in the Marvel universe. It both makes you laugh and makes you think, and while answering some questions, it also raises new ones.

Of all the Marvel One-Shots, this might just be the best. It serves as an explanation for plot points that arose in _Iron Man 3_ (much like the consultant did for _The Incredible Hulk_), but it goes beyond a simple function and provides the audience with not just information, but entertainment. _Final rating:★★★½ - I really liked it. Would strongly recommend you give it your time._

Probably the best production values of all of the One-Shots, this short comedy film brings conclusion to Trevor Slattery's character in the same style that gave so much substance to the role in Iron Man 3. Found as an extra on the Thor: The Dark World disc, and among the collected One-Shots on the bonus disc in the Phase 2 box set.
