The ero guro tradition, one of the darkest corners of Japanese manga culture, occasionally dares to be brought to the big screen. This production, adapted from Waita Uziga's manga of the same name, is a product of exactly this courage, or perhaps recklessness. The story is about the daily life of a young woman named Mai, who works as a maid. However, the term "daily life" here is extremely misleading; Mai's existence is shaped on an almost inhuman dimension, far beyond an ordinary service relationship. This world, set in an isolated space, operates like a closed universe that is disconnected from the outside and has created its own distorted rules. The production is not concerned with comforting or entertaining the audience. On the contrary, he constructs the discomfort consciously and persistently. It presents elements of blood, violence and fetishism in a raw and provocative language, without any attempt to aestheticize them. This choice makes the film more of a boundary test than an artistic experience. It should be noted that it offers a seriously compelling viewing experience for those unfamiliar with the ero guro genre. Fans of the genre have a divided opinion even when evaluating the production in terms of loyalty to the source manga. This adaptation, shaped under the direction of Sade Satô, ultimately appears as a work that could not avoid being overshadowed by its manga and could not adequately take advantage of the opportunity to create its own original cinema.
