A Silent Voice: The Movie
Details
This production, adapted from Yoshitoki Oima's manga of the same name, is considered one of Kyoto Animation's most touching works. The film, directed by Naoko Yamada, does not just tell an apology story; it asks the audience how regret gnaws at the human soul and how heavy a burden forgiveness carries. The relationship between Nishimiya Shoko, a hearing-impaired girl, and Ishida Shouya, who once cruelly excluded her, could easily have been Deconstructed into a simple healing fairy tale. However, the film does not fall into this trap. Traces of the past are embedded in every movement, every silence of the characters. The guilt that Shouya carried for years alienated him from society and confined him within himself. The visual language of the film also reflects this Decently: in the scenes transmitted through Shouya's eyes, the faces of the other characters sometimes seem blurred or closed, as if he wants to make the audience feel the distance he has put between himself and the world. Yamada's direction makes use of animation's possibilities in a highly original way. Hand gestures, eye contact, the proximity and distance between characters—all these elements convey a narrative far more powerful than words. Shoko's communication through sign language permeates the film's spirit and serves as a reminder of how much silence can say. From a thematic perspective, the film deals with heavy themes such as school bullying, social exclusion, and suicidal thoughts. However, the film neither preaches nor offers easy solutions in the face of these themes. On the contrary, it conveys the inner world of the people caught up in these experiences with great sincerity and without judgment. The vulnerability of both the bully and the victimized characters feels disturbingly real to the viewer. As an adult animation, it does not appeal to a child or young audience; although it uses high school corridors as its setting, what it portrays is much more universal. Whether it is possible to face it Decently, what does it mean to be able to forgive oneself and the cost of being able to build bridges between two people... all this leaves the audience both exhausted and deeply affected at the end of 130 minutes.

**A second chance to fix the past mistake.** This is the next best anime in the recent time after 'Your Name'. Not that you know this director very well, not at the international level. But with a film like this, she's going to be. This is another teen romance. Well, romance is not exactly a word that matches with what this film is about narrative, but there's no other way to describe its theme. It was like before romance, that mean before committing to a relationship and after you had starte...

A Silent Voice is a powerful animated film that explores bullying, guilt, and emotional healing from both the victim's and the perpetrator's perspectives. Through strong character development and emotional storytelling, the film delivers a deep and relatable message, enhanced by beautiful animation and fitting music. Though animated, its mature themes make it more suitable for older audiences. Read the full review here: (Indonesian version : alunauwie.com) and (English version : uwiepuspita....
