Science fiction films depicting the near future often depict cold, sterile, and uninhabited worlds. However, this production directed by Shawn Levy, on the contrary, focuses on the rawest and most familiar human emotions; the moment of a father's confrontation with his child, the effort to stand up again in the shadow of losses and a second chance that comes from an unexpected place. Charlie Kenton, played by Hugh Jackman, is a half-dreamer, half-reckless character who, while once a promising boxer, is trying to survive in this new world transformed by technology. Now it's not humans but giant steel robots that take to the ring. As the audience grows, the stakes rise, but Charlie continues to lose at every turn. Until their paths crossed with a little boy who entered her life at an unexpected moment. The film's science fiction framework actually remains in the background. The glitz and glamour of the robots don't overshadow the real story. The real issue is how two people who don't know each other and cannot trust each other begin to find each other around a shared passion. The energy brought to the screen by little Dakota Goyo and Jackman's tough yet fragile performance make this dynamic believable. With a cast that includes names like Evangeline Lilly and Anthony Mackie, the film doesn't just offer a straightforward action experience to its audience. The robots' destructive battles are, of course, visually satisfying; but the real tension lies within the people, not the mechanisms. Every match is a test, every defeat is a confrontation. Although it did not receive full marks from critics, the production gained a large fan base worldwide and transcends the boundaries of a family film with its emotional depth. It is neither a pure action film nor a classic drama; it occupies a balanced position between the two, and this stance has its own unique appeal. What leaves its mark after being watched is neither the robots nor the fight scenes. What remains is something much more ordinary yet much deeper: that feeling that reminds us that second chances are earned, not deserved.

I wonder if this was originally written to be a Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots movie, but when they couldn't get the rights they just decided to make it anyway. In either case, it's not very good. Amazing that you could take a movie about anthropomorphic **robots** and manage to still make it into a cliche sports film. _Final rating:★½: - Boring/disappointing. Avoid where possible._
