Wonder
Details
The story of ten-year-old Auggie Pullman, who had to start life from a slightly more difficult place because of his facial difference, may seem like an ordinary "fit for school" narrative at first glance. However, this film, in which Stephen Chbosky steps behind the camera, manages to reach a much more layered and honest place. R.J. Based on Palacio's novel, which has reached millions of readers, the work tells the story of a child born with Treacher Collins syndrome stepping into a traditional school for the first time. However, the film does not merely convey this experience through Auggie's eyes. From time to time, the story shifts to the perspective of mom, dad, sister and classmates, so you realize that not a single family or a single child, but many people surrounding each other are experiencing their own "miracle" at the same time. Jacob Tremblay brings both vulnerability and incredible inner strength to Auggie, whom he portrays with maturity beyond his years. Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson, on the other hand, paint a realistic and warm family portrait without resorting to melodrama. The main force that carries the emotional burden of the film is the unpretentious but effective moments: the glances turning in the hallway, the silence experienced at a lunch, the fragile beginning of a friendship. While addressing heavy themes like bullying, exclusion, and prejudice, Chbosky refrains from preaching. Instead of forcing the viewer to learn a lesson, it invites them to feel it. The film's tone is sometimes melancholic, sometimes joyful, but it always carries a human warmth. Although it is said to be a production that appeals to children, it may contain much more for adults, because "being different" or "not knowing how to relate to what is different" is a universal helplessness. Miracle is the kind of movie that stays in your mind for a long time after watching it. It affects you not through a sudden shock, but through an emotion that works from within. And as you leave, you can't help but ask yourself: What do I really see when I look into someone else's face?
