At the heart of the narrative lies the weight of a separation, a longing, and perhaps a reckoning. The film brings to light traces of the past by traveling back and forth through time. A sick child, a lost person, an unfulfilled feeling... While these elements complement each other, they keep the audience in a constant state of anticipation. The tension created by the film stems not from the action itself, but from the slow descent of unspoken words and delayed emotions upon us. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that Kyoto Animation's visual language reaches its peak here.
