Vixen!
Details

This production, one of the harshest and most original examples of Russ Meyer's cinema, brings the moral contradictions of 1960s America to the screen with unusual courage. The story takes place in the remote mountain regions of Canada; It is shaped around Vixen, who lives by her own rules in the absence of her pilot husband and lets her desires live without submitting to any social pressure. However, Meyer uses this character not as a mere object of erotic fantasy, but as a provocative mirror against the repressed norms of the period. The real power of the film comes from using eroticism as a tool to simultaneously examine the anti-Vietnam War sentiment, racism, cold war paranoia and sexual hypocrisy of the period. Meyer clearly aims to disturb the audience; The vixen's behavior is both attractive and questioning, without leaving the viewer in a passive position. Erica Gavin completely dominates the stage with her lead performance. He brings both a wildness and a strange originality to the character; This constitutes one of the main elements that distinguishes the film from the exploitation products of its period. Meyer's visual language is crude and direct, yet energetic; There is a deliberately chosen sense of provocation in every frame. Vixen! caused great controversy when it was released and left a significant mark in the history of independent cinema. It deserves to be watched as a disturbing but thought-provoking, exuberant but calculated production.
