Togo

Some stories leave something inside a person. It warms the heart and you don't want to leave there for a while. Directed by Ericson Core, this production offers just such an experience; a story of true friendship and sacrifice set in the brutal whiteness of Alaska. Imagine a small town in 1920s America, crushed under endless snow. The danger is concrete and imminent, while the solution seems distant and almost unattainable. In this painting, a man and the small, old, ordinary-looking dog next to him undertake an extraordinary task. Willem Dafoe portrays dog and wolf trainer Leonhard Seppala with remarkable sincerity. Every glance and every silence conveyed through the character conveys that delicate human bond established in the midst of a snowstorm. The Siberian Husky named Togo goes far beyond being a movie dog. It has a history accumulated since its youth; a being that oscillates between domestic and wild, disobedient yet loyal, small yet resilient. The film does not run away from emotional manipulation when growing up this character. On the contrary, he weaves that bond with patience and realism. The scenes conveying Constance's faith in Togo add a unique depth to the narrative; Julianne Nicholson stands out here as both a powerful and fragile figure. One of the most striking aspects of the production is the visual language. The harsh beauty of Alaska takes on an almost physical weight with panoramic shots. Cold isn't just a number on the thermometer; it's reflected on the screen, almost palpable. The scenes set amidst a snowstorm silently escalate the tension. The music also supports this atmosphere; it conveys emotion without going overboard. This story, based on real events, also draws attention to a historical injustice. It brings a hero who remained in the shadows for years to the place he deserves. He makes us question how the bond between human and animal can be so strong, but he does it not with a didactic language, but with a quiet and honest expression. Dec. It can be watched as a family, but it's not a film aimed at children. A rare kind of film that touches viewers of all ages and leaves them thinking even after watching.

Stunning, truly stunning. As I pressed play on <em>'Togo'</em> and began watching the initial scenes unfold, I was expecting a rehash/retread on Disney's previous films on this sort - e.g. <em>'White Fang'</em> or <em>'Iron Will'</em>. Those are good in their own right, but this 2019 film - which is about a true story - takes things to another dimension. It tugs at the heartstrings profusely, from the first scene to the very last. It's superbly written, with there being a fair amount of su...

If you can imagine a medicinal equivalent of the pony express, then you’ll have an idea of the thrust behind the story of “Togo”. Initially a young hound that his owner Leonhard Seppala (Willem Dafoe) might have readily cooked, his annoying persistence and determination saw him prove his worth before becoming the lead dog on the sleigh run that ensured vital serum reached the northernmost parts of the country with a run of some two hundred-odd miles, often through some atrocious conditions that ...

The dog who did the hardest part never got the statue. In 1925, a diphtheria outbreak threatened the children of Nome, Alaska. The only way to get serum there in winter was by dog sled, across roughly 700 miles of frozen terrain. What history remembered was Balto, the lead dog of the final relay team, the one who trotted into Nome to fanfare. What history forgot was Togo, a Siberian Husky who covered over 260 miles with his musher Leonhard Seppala, including the most treacherous stretch acros...
