Justice League Dark: Apokolips War
Details
This latest stop in the DC Animated Movie Universe takes viewers to a completely different place. It is futile to look for the familiar optimism, sense of victory and redemptive finales expected from superhero animations here, because the Apokolips War does something that its genre almost never tries: it shows what it really feels like to lose. The accumulation of this universe, woven together over the years through dozens of interconnected animated films, explodes into a single point here. Darkseid's victory on Earth is not a backdrop; it is the film itself. The story begins from a point where everything is already ruined, and this dark start is one of the film's boldest choices. The audience finds familiar faces not in familiar circumstances, but in their broken, tired, and hopeless states. With Matt Ryan's voice, John Constantine stands at the very center of this dark atmosphere. The narrative, which blends elements of magic and action, sets the stage for darker, more ambiguous characters in addition to the classic dynamics of the Justice League. This mixture fits into the spirit of the film, because there is no black-and-white good-evil struggle here, even survival itself becomes a controversial virtue. The pace never slows down for approximately ninety minutes of the production. However, this speed does not lead to superficiality; on the contrary, it creates a feeling of constant, unceasing destruction. Each scene serves as a reminder that things are getting worse, and this accumulation carries the finale to an emotionally devastating place. Even if there is hope, it is a dirty and costly hope. The visual language of the animation also resonates with this pessimism. The color palette is deliberately bold, while the action scenes are both majestic and relentless. Feeling the characters' pain is a rare emotion in this type of animation. For fans of the universe, this film serves both as a conclusion and a reckoning. The attachment felt for each familiar character makes the film's dangers feel real. The Battle of Apokolips proves how far superhero animation can go in terms of maturity and boldness.

The DC Animated Universe movies have had their ups and downs, though even the lesser ones were entertaining enough, but thoroughly enjoyed this (supposed) conclusion, it's certainly the bloodiest and plenty of major deaths. The animation is mostly good as was the voice acting (funny, didn't care for Jason O'Mara's Batman early on, but over these years, come to really like it) and nice hearing Matt Ryan's return as Constantine. **4.25/5** THIS is what the live action side should have led to if...

**This should have been two movies.** _~ Please forgive any spelling errors. English is not my native language._ I feel it would have been better if Justice League Dark: Apokolips War had been structured as two movies, similar to The Death of Superman and Reign of the Supermen. Movie 1: We see the Justice League preparing for the attack on Apokolips. Meanwhile, the Teen Titans prepare to defend Earth if the Justice League fails. An emotional farewell to characters we've come to know ove...
