Cold Storage
Details
Sometimes the greatest threats come from the smallest and most invisible things. This story, which begins in the sterile corridors of underground storage facilities, melts the instinctive warmth of fear and an unexpected sense of comedy in the same crucible with the cold logic of science fiction. Directed by Jonny Campbell, this production respects the conventions of the genre while not hesitating to cleverly subvert them. In a remote corner of Australia, on a facility completely isolated from the outside world, everything appears to be under control. Until a mutated and uncontrollably proliferating fungal organism escaped. This microorganism, renowned for its contagiousness, infiltrates every surface and every living being it encounters, setting the stage for indescribable chaos. Two young employees of the facility suddenly find themselves trying to manage a nightmare for which no training had fully prepared them. But next to them is a much more experienced name; An expert who has spent years in the field of bioterrorism preparing for such scenarios. This character, brought to life by Liam Neeson, forms the emotional center of the film, while Georgina Campbell and Joe Keery's energetic performances breathe dynamism into the story. The presence of established names like Vanessa Redgrave and Lesley Manville elevates the production's class level even further. The tension never literally drops throughout the film; however, the script also chooses to make the audience laugh from time to time instead of constantly leaving them in the dark. This comedy-horror balance is skillfully established: moments that make you smile are used not to underestimate the danger, but to highlight the human sides of the characters and give the audience breathing space. As the chaos caused by the fungal outbreak grows, the atmosphere becomes increasingly harsh, where the bizarre and the real threat intertwine. Survival stories are often set in the wildness of outdoor spaces, but being trapped in a narrow, enclosed facility surrounded by the overwhelming silence of the underground creates a completely different kind of pressure. For those who want to watch perhaps the most absurd and bizarre version of the apocalypse, this film offers an experience that is both intriguing and strangely entertaining.

"Cold Storage" won't be winning any awards, nor is it terribly memorable, but it is fun. This is a very downbeat horror action comedy with a fungal zombie vibe that's ridiculous enough to work. It's backed by a cast of down-on-their-luck, likeable characters who very sensibly don't take themselves too seriously. The results are quite watchable. I did like the "he's got COVID" moment. It's probably the only point where I would say this film was genuinely funny. That said, there's plenty o...

After a space station’s orbit had disintegrated, one of it’s fuel tanks found it’s way to Western Australia where a deadly fungus was detected by “Quinn” (Liam Neeson) and “Romano” (Lesley Manville). Quickly realising it’s lethal and zombifying toxicity, they ship it back to the States where it is buried deep underground. After many years, this facility is sold off by Uncle Sam and is now one of those storage units for folks with excess junk to keep. It’s here that “Travis” - aka “Teacake” (Joe ...

Lots of fun This is well-acted, superbly casted and has a great mix of cgi and practical effects, prosthetics and makeup to make it look well rounded. It is a fun movie, with good dialogue, characters you get invested in, and a plot that feels urgent. I recommend this a lot, and with Liam delivering his lines perfectly you get the icing on the cake!

Cold Storage (2026) opens with an intertitle explaining the fate of the Skylab space station. The film informs us that Skylab crashed back to Earth, most of it burning up during reentry. However, one crucial piece survives: an oxygen tank that somehow ends up in a forgotten Australian backwater. This raises an immediate question. A large piece of a famous space station survives intact, becomes a local tourist attraction, and even attracts media attention (we even see newspaper clippings), yet...
