The Intouchables
Details
A grand mansion in one of Paris' affluent neighborhoods, an aristocratic man, and someone who steps into his world from a completely different place... Inspired by a true story, this French production, which has been brought to the screen, goes in search of the purest form of humanity; and while doing so, it neither preaches nor resorts to forced emotional moments to leak tears. Directed by Éric Toledano, the film, which was released in France in 2011, delves into the anatomy of a friendship that transcends social divides. On the one hand, there is a man whose life is now only his mind, Decapitated from his body; on the other hand, a man who has had to face what life has taken away, not what it has offered him. These two people discover each other in a world where they would normally find no common ground. And this discovery transforms them both. The chemistry between François Cluzet and Omar Sy single-handedly sustains the backbone of the film. Cluzet creates incredible depth through her facial expressions and tone of voice while playing a character trapped in a motionless body. Sy, on the other hand, captivates the audience every time she enters the scene with her naturalness and timing. The two of them process the dynamic they have created together with great subtlety; they make you think while laughing, and catch you unprepared for an emotion that suddenly squeezes your insides when you lighten up. Instead of relying on stereotypes about social inequalities and disability, the film uses these issues as a backdrop. Its main issue is much more universal: what happens when a person really sees another person? When he comes across as a mere human being, free from pity, arrogance or loser? You find the answer to this question not in the words of the film, but in the small moments, glances, and silences. The music choices are also among the elements that shape the film's atmosphere. The transitions between the classical and the modern seem to suggest the distance between the characters' worlds and the gradual closing of that distance. Movies that make you feel good after watching them aren't always superficial. Sometimes productions that remain deeply human and convey the truth without sugar coating also literally hurt. My dear Friend, this is exactly that kind of movie.

Funny and moving for a difficult topic to talk about. François Cluzet and Omar Sy perform amazingly well although the rest of the cast is also very good.
