Singin' in the Rain
Details
Works that hail from Hollywood's golden age and have retained their magic for decades are rare. Singin' in the Rain is perhaps the most brilliant example of these rare works. the film, which was brought to the screen in 1952 with the signature of Stanley Donen, redefined everything known about the musical until that day, pushed the boundaries of the genre and inspired countless works that came after it. The film takes place during a unique period when cinema is coming to terms with its own history. In the late 1920s, Hollywood was experiencing the pains of the transition from silent films to sound films. This transformation is conveyed not only as a technical change, but also as an existential crisis that leaves deep traces on stars, studios and dreams. The cameras don't stop; on the contrary, they start speaking for the first time. And behind every voice lies a truth, and behind every truth lies a secret. Gene Kelly is both the actor and the soul itself here. Captivating the audience with her grace, Kelly performs one of the most iconic dance scenes in the rain, on wet paving stones, with pure enthusiasm. This scene is no longer just a dance; it is a moment of feeling etched into the collective memory of cinema history. Donald O'Connor's performance, worthy of a master of physical comedy, is one of the elements that brings the film to the peak of joy; you laugh without noticing how you are laughing while watching. Debbie Reynolds offers a fresh and genuine energy that shines through without being overshadowed by all these great names. Director Stanley Donen doesn't just present the film as an entertaining musical. Beneath it lies subtle satire, a playful yet incisive look at the Hollywood machine. The fragility of fame, the conflict of Deceptive images with reality and characters resisting change; all this is expertly placed between the laugh and the music. Under the Rain leaves a warm feeling inside you and an uncontrollable smile on your lips after watching it. This film, which once again reminds us what love of cinema, creativity, and holding on to life mean, is both a nostalgic journey and a timeless celebration.

Just a masterpiece mixing an interesting background story, great script with good humor, exceptional singers and dancers and a Gene Kelly that is just genial, well sided with Donald O'Connor and Debbie Reynolds. A must to be seen.

I'm happy again! Singing In The Rain is to me the greatest musical ever made, sure many others push it close, The Wizard Of Oz for one will always be a 10/10 movie in my opinion, but Singing In The Rain is a film that has no flaws, it is a perfect movie. Don Lockwood is a star of silent movies but his life is boring, then talking movies arrive and with them he eyes an opportunity to greatly improve his life. A chance encounter with dancer Kathy Selden will further shape his destiny, and al...

I'm clearly in the major, major minority. Honestly though, I didn't enjoy this. It's certainly worth noting musicals are probably my least favourite genre, but I'm still more than capable of finding entertainment with them - e.g. <em>'The Greatest Showman'</em>, <em>'The Sound of Music'</em> and others. <em>'Singin’ in the Rain'</em>, however, simply didn't connect with me. There's one, maybe two, good songs that I had already heard, while Gene Kelly (Don) is solid fun in the lead role. Th...

There's a tendency with this film to just think of the genius that was Gene Kelly and his umbrella with the title song, but as a wonderfully enjoyable three hander between himself, Debbie Reynolds and my own favourite from this film Donald O'Connor, it is so much more the that. It just oozes charm and style. The plot centres around the aspirations of a silent movie company to make a talkie! Their long established stars "Don Lockwood" (Kelly) and "Lina Lamont" (Jean Hagan) have a successful on-sc...
