Werewolf by Night
Details
Far removed from the brightly colored, cheerful superhero world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a completely different story begins within the walls of a dark mansion. As a strange community gathered at midnight prepares to compete with each other to claim the legacy of a deceased master, the audience falls right into the middle of this unusual ritual. This production, in which Michael Giacchino took the director's chair for the first time, not only opens a door that the MCU has hardly touched so far, it opens that door all the way back. Giacchino, known for his musician identity, embarks on a cinematic adventure that reveals a surprisingly confident and cohesive visual language. The film's black-and-white imagery reflects a deep love and respect for classic horror cinema of the 1930s and 1940s. It is a bold choice to combine the fog-smelling, shadow-filled aesthetic created by James Whale with a contemporary superhero, and this choice largely pays off. Gael García Bernal imbues his character, which carefully preserves its mystery, with an established inner world. This stranger, who uses his silence as a shield and stands out distinctly from those around him, evokes not only curiosity but also empathy in the viewer. Laura Donnelly, on the other hand, appears in the darkness with a surprising energy; she performs a performance that is as strong as she seems fragile, as full of surprises as she seems predictable. The production is not just a genre experiment. It also deals with the existential questions that lie at the core of many of the monster myths. What is a monster, who determines its limit? Who is the savior, who is the danger? These questions are not asked explicitly, but they circulate in minds, ingrained in the atmosphere. With its fifty-four-minute duration, it is not an ordinary film; it creates the feeling of watching a special exhibition. This dense, concise, and purpose-driven production is also noteworthy for demonstrating how much room the MCU can make for diverse voices. Sometimes the most impressive doors open in the least expected places.

**Werewolf by Night makes bold creative decisions to embrace the monster movies vibe, and it pays off BIG TIME!** Werewolf by Night is my favorite Marvel film so far this year. The stylized approach with the black and white filter and film grain was a bold choice that gave the movie great atmosphere and nostalgia. Werewolf by Night embraced the horror genre and violence slightly more than other Marvel movies, with villains losing limbs and being eaten. However, it’s still a Disney+ special at...

The film "Werewolf by Night" pleasantly surprised me with its creative twist. Initially a black-and-white production, it captured my attention in a way I hadn't anticipated. The unique presentation in monochrome added to the film's appeal, and I particularly enjoyed the nod to "The Wizard of Oz" where the transition to color was a memorable touch. This movie is definitely worth a watch - it may not be lengthy, but it offers an intriguing experience worth delving into. I've personally watched ...
