Marvel Studios Assembled: The Making of Eternals
Details
One of the most ambitious and unusual projects of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this documentary, which opens up to the world of Eternals behind the scenes, is a real treasure for cinema enthusiasts. Chloe Zhao reveals step by step what is happening behind the camera, how this huge production was brought to life and how that big painting that met with millions of viewers was created. The production, which offers extremely dense content with a runtime of approximately one hour, does not limit itself to technical details alone. When we hear the experiences of names such as Gemma Chan, Kit Harington and Kumail Nanjiani directly from their own mouths, we can feel how challenging and satisfying it is to bring these legendary characters to life. The scenes that convey the motivations of the characters, how the actors prepare for these roles and the unique chemistry that occurs on the set environment take the film far beyond a mere promotional video. The perspectives of Kevin Feige and producer Nate Moore are particularly valuable in understanding Marvel's approach to this project. Why Eternals stands in such a different place from other MCU films, what artistic decisions are made and how the studio's desire to push the boundaries are put into a concrete framework through these interviews. Watching the experience of an actor taking on a historical role like Lauren Ridloff constitutes one of the most emotionally powerful moments in the documentary. Bringing the issue of inclusivity in cinema out of the realm of abstract concepts and conveying it through the eyes of a real person adds a unique dimension to this production. As in other parts of the Assembled series, the aim here is not only to satisfy technical curiosity; it is to remind how a film is a product of collective labor and passion. For those who were initially skeptical of Eternals or couldn't fully grasp it upon first viewing, this documentary offers an opportunity to reevaluate the film. Seeing behind the scenes sometimes makes it possible to view everything in front of the curtain from a completely different perspective.

Highlights a lot of strengths of ETERNALS that I didn’t notice initially, the details in the production design especially. Pretty neat.
