Ice Age: The Meltdown
Details
Pour a sweet stream of melted ice over that cold and noisy adventure that began almost half a million years ago, and here comes this joyful sequel directed by Carlos Saldanha. The production, which carries the warmth and spirit of friendship of the first film, is moving forward this time in the shadow of a much bigger threat: the warming of the world and the relentless melting of ice. But this troubling scene transforms into a truly entertaining scene in the hands of the film. Manny, the big-hearted mammoth voiced by Ray Romano, Diego, and the sweet goofball Sid are together again. The old chemistry between them is still intact; it's as obvious that they lean on each other as it is that they clash with each other. But this time the story goes beyond just the struggle for survival. Identity, belonging and a little bit of love enter the scene. While the loneliness within Manny's inner world is conveyed subtly to child viewers, adults cannot help but notice this layer. The new characters added to the series unexpectedly soften the film's tone. Ellie, who considers herself a different species and therefore views the world from an unconventional perspective, adds both a humorous and thought-provoking dimension to the story. The warm and powerful voice that Queen Latifah brings to the character immediately makes her likable. The Crash and Eddie duo, on the other hand, fill the stage with a frenetic energy that never slows down the tempo. But there's no doubt that the real star of the film is still Scrat. That tiny rake-toothed squirrel, while making the audience laugh in every scene, silently carries a tragicomic philosophy of existence. That acorn he's chasing is more valuable to him than the whole world, and this obsession evokes both compassion and wild laughter in the audience. Saldanha also raises the bar visually in this film. The flood hazard posed by melting ice presents impressive scenes accompanied by dynamic camera movements and an increasingly fast-paced tempo. The production, which locks both the small and large audience to the screen for ninety-one minutes, is perfect for a quality movie evening that the family can spend together.

Just as good as the first. Really funny. All of these movies are good. Tough to do.

Now firm friends, mammoth "Manny", sloth "Sid", sabre-toothed "Diego" and mongrelly "Scrat" discover that their carefree days amidst the snow and ice are numbered... Things are getting distinctly slushy and they conclude that higher ground is a good bet before they find themselves needing galoshes. Their trek to dryness offers "Manny" a long-awaited opportunity when he meets "Ellie" - a girl mammoth who takes an instant dislike to him, indeed for some reason she thinks he's a possum! Clearly not...
