Stepping into a world along the Dniester river in the deserted villages of Western Ukraine means feeling that time flows in a completely different way. "Tıha Povın", or "Silent Flood" in Turkish, focuses on a Pentecostal Christian community, the "Kashketniks", who consciously stay away from the noise of modern life. This community, which takes its name from the caps men wear on their heads as a symbol of modesty, lives a life in line with the teachings of the Bible by rejecting electricity, motor vehicles and mass media. Instead of looking at this community from the outside, Dmitro Sukholitkiy-Sobchuk's camera waits patiently in daily life. Rhythms ranging from morning rituals to field work, from the family table to silent prayer; It reflects on the screen like an echo of the pre-industrial age. The director's observational attitude gives the documentary a heavy and thought-provoking breath; nothing is explained by force, nothing is romanticized. But perhaps the deepest layer of the film arises from the tension between the Ukrainian war going on in the background and the silent existence of this community. Faith, isolation and survival become questions that feed on each other: What happens when the destructive waves of the modern world reach these villages? Are traditions a shield or a leaf blown in the storm? The production, which attracted attention with a high TMDB rating of eight points, reminds the audience to slow down, look and listen in the age of fast consumption. Documentaries in which silence speaks so meaningfully are now quite rare.
