Gaspar Noé is described as one of cinema's most disturbing figures, and with this film he unquestionably reinforces this reputation. Considered one of the most extreme examples of the French new extremism, the work does not content the viewer with just telling a story; it draws him directly into the experience, almost physically. Perhaps the most striking feature of the film is its reversal of time. The narrative proceeds from the end to the beginning; the audience sees the result of each scene first, not the cause. This preference is not an ordinary formal game. It establishes the feeling of inevitability from the outset; it makes you feel like everything is already over even before the curtain rises. As you watch, a sense of helplessness overwhelms you, as if you had never had the chance to intervene in the course of history. Monica Bellucci and Vincent Cassel deliver two powerful, complementary performances in this journey from the dark streets of Paris to the warmth of a bright apartment. The characters' relationship forms the emotional backbone of the film. However, Noé does not present this backbone to the audience gently; he reveals with brutal clarity how fragile a person is in a world where violence and love are intertwined. It is known that during the film's release period, audiences left the theaters at many screenings, especially in Cannes, and some incidents were even reported in the press. These reactions do not indicate the success of a shock effect, but rather the authenticity of the atmosphere created by Noé. The camera movement, sound design, and lighting do not allow the viewer to feel safe. Discomfort is not a tool here; it is a carrier of meaning in itself. Nevertheless, the work is not based solely on propulsion. Underneath lies a deep sadness, even a sense of mourning. To understand what was lost, one must see the final minutes of the film, that is, essentially the beginning of the story. When that moment arrives, the weight of everything that has happened suddenly collapses. It is hard to watch, and even harder to digest. But there are certain films in the history of cinema that to ignore would mean ignoring something greater than their existence. This work is exactly that kind of work.

Deceived by 7+ rating I started watching. After 15 minutes I still forced myself to keep watching. After 30 minutes I had seen nothing worth to see, wasted half an hour of my life. What a dull obnoxious movie. Even the camera work is irritating.

Firstly this is one of the best films of 2000-10 period, the film is in reverse order concerning its story, so the opening really is the ending of the film, and the ending is actually the start of the film, so please be aware when watching this film its in reverse order story wise and, its camera work is certainly one of the best ever produced, the sound work mirrors the camera work, and is very hypnotic, and is meant to create a state of nausea and anxiety, it is very gritty gay scene in france...

Now depending on when you watched this film, you might notice that the original version and the more recent one are structured in an almost clockwise and anti-clockwise manner. In this version we work our way backwards from the frenetic activities of “Marcus” (Vincent Cassel) and his friend “Pierre” (Albert Dupontel) as they race round Paris in the early morning vengefully trying to track down a brute who gruesomely attacked his girlfriend “Alex” (Monica Bellucci) in a city underpass as she walk...
