The crumbling hopes of the working class, the vulnerabilities passed down from generation to generation and the secrets that boil under the surface of small communities are almost embedded in this geography. Brad Ingelsby has constructed this compact and breathtaking seven-part miniseries using precisely this atmosphere as its material. Mare Sheehan is at the center of the story. This female detective, portrayed by Kate Winslet in a career-defining performance, is someone who knows her town inside out, speaks the language of the place, carries the fatigue of the place. But at the same time, he is also struggling with the wreckage of his own life. A murder investigation pushes Mare to her limits, both professionally and personally.
