Clarkson's Farm
Details
A name that made a name for itself with car programs and left its mark on screens with its sharp tongue and provocative comments suddenly finds itself behind the wheel of a tractor... This may sound like a joke, but what emerges is both much funnier than a joke and much more real than a joke. When Jeremy Clarkson decides to farm his vast estate in the Cotswolds region of England, he has a farm on his hands, but he knows almost nothing about farming. This series begins like a documentary about that reckless courage and stubborn learning process; however, over time it evolves into something much deeper. To a true and honest story that tells how the soil can underestimate man, that nature can always prevail despite all our technological arrogance, and how much more labor, knowledge and luck it takes to make a living from a pinch of land than we think. One of the central characters of the series is young farmer Kaleb Cooper. Unlike Clarkson, this young man, who was born on the ground, internalized his job, reveals his knowledge without compromising at all against his employer, who comes with a big-city arrogance. The dynamic between the two characters both amuses and makes you think; because the real power balance here is not at all what you expect in the season. Sundays Decrees the concrete effects of climate change on farming, bureaucratic obstacles, difficulties of market access and the gap between the romanticized image of rural life and its reality are brought up throughout the series without any didactics. Clarkson embodies it all in her own skin, and the audience both laughs and is surprised along with her. Over the course of five seasons, the farm's growth, transformation, and confrontation with new challenges each season take the series far beyond a reality show. Because the viewer doesn't just watch a celebrity's adventures here; they witness humanity's ancient, fragile relationship with the land, nature, and their own boundaries. And they realize that this relationship is not easy at all, but it is also indispensable.
