Works that push the boundaries of morality, Decontextualize the thin line between good and evil and force the viewer to face their own values are rare. This 37-episode anime series, adapted from the legendary manga by Tsugumi Ohba, has achieved a cult status that has become even deeper, let alone forgotten over the years, for precisely this reason. At the center of the story is a young person who stands out from his peers with his brilliant mind, yet experiences profound inner turmoil in the face of the world's corruption. Fed not from ordinary anger, but from a real sense of moral dissatisfaction, this character begins to position himself as the savior of humanity, along with a supernatural power that he accidentally got his hands on. No matter how pure their intentions may seem at the beginning, how power and absolute control transform a person remains constantly up-to-date as the most striking question of the series. Death Note does not present a simple good-bad conflict. Instead, it places the viewer in an uncomfortable position: watching criminals being killed, you alternate between finding yourself justified and Decrying it. This moral turmoil is what forms the soul of the series. The questions of who defines justice, who should define it, and what the price of this definition is emerge with a different layer in each chapter. At the heart of the story is detective L, one of the sharpest minds in the world, whose identity is shrouded in deep mystery. The tension in which two geniuses read each other like a chess game, each step is taken by anticipating the opposite step, gives rise to scenes engraved in the memory of the anime world. This encounter is not merely a chase; it is a relentless clash of two different worldviews. With its visual narration, cinematic editing and fascinating music by Yoshihisa Hirano, the work created by Madhouse studio is one of the most technically painstaking examples in the history of anime. Each scene consciously constructs the atmosphere; the use of light and shadow creates a symbolic language that reflects the characters' inner world. This series, which should not be missed by those who like psychological thrillers, those who enjoy complex character analysis and those who like to occupy their minds with moral philosophy, leaves a person in the middle of their thoughts when it ends. And perhaps this is the common feature of the best works.

My favourite ever series not just of anime but TV in general, Death Note is simply beautiful television. The production is amazing from great animation to brilliant music and wonderful performances in English and Japanese. The characters of Light, L, Ryuk, Misa and so on are all truly iconic and entertaining, with Light Yagami being my favourite ever fictional character (he is a brilliant psychopath) and his rivalry with L being simply incredible. Episodes 25 and 37 stand-out as two of the great...
