Attack on Titan
Details
The walls built for survival can also be a prison. In this dark world, where the last remnants of humanity take refuge behind giant walls, freedom becomes both the biggest dream and the most dangerous desire. Adapted from Hajime Isayama's manga, this production may seem like an ordinary survival story at first glance, but over time it begins to ask much deeper and disturbing questions. The story unfolds during a fragile period of peace established after the giants—that is, the titans—who have been humanity's nightmare for centuries. This long-standing silence is shattered in a single day, and a young boy growing up in that destruction freezes his anger and mourning into a vow that will last a lifetime. However, as the series progresses, it becomes clear that the real battle is not with the titans, but with the darkness within man himself, ideologies and ambitions for power. Attack on Titan is a production that pins the viewer to his seat with the magnificent choreography in the action sequences, but its main strength comes from its political and philosophical depth. Themes such as freedom, sacrifice, the morality of war and the true face of what we define as the enemy gain a different layer with each season. Issues such as the rise of fascism, how hate speech shapes the masses, and the possibility that the victim will turn into an oppressor after a while take this production far beyond an ordinary action anime. Despite all this heavy content, the series never instrumentalizes its characters. Eren, Mikasa, and Armin's journey from childhood naivety to the bitterness of maturity creates a deep connection with the audience. As the seasons progress, certain things become apparent about the beloved characters; people change, the good ones turn gray, and nothing is as it seems at first. This production, which also pushes the boundaries of television animation in terms of music usage, drawing quality and narrative timing, deserves the title of being one of the most talked-about series of the decade. By the end, all that remains are not just the action scenes, but all those questions and that unrelenting heaviness.

The only reason Shakespeare was considered to be the best writer of all time was because Isayama was not born yet.
