Saturday Night Live
Details
There are certain productions that began on NBC screens in 1975 and have continued uninterrupted ever since; they have become not just a program but a cultural phenomenon. This late-night genre production, brought to life by Lorne Michaels' genius and Dick Ebersol's vision, has attained precisely such a legendary status. This show, which has been airing live every weekend for more than fifty years, has already surpassed the title of the longest-running comedy program in the history of American television; it has become an institution, a school, a mirror. The heart of the program beats in that unique tension where prepared texts meet the live stage. Presenting the sketch comedy format at such a high tempo and to such a wide audience is an act of courage in itself. Moreover, each episode expertly captures the weekly political climate, pop culture, and social tensions and brings them to the screen. While watching, you both laugh and realize there's actually nothing to laugh about; satire reveals its true power when it strikes this balance. Over the course of decades, countless talented individuals have blossomed on the soil of this stage. Names such as Eddie Murphy, Dan Aykroyd, Tina Fey, Bill Murray, Will Ferrell have come out of here; the first major showcases of comedians and actors known around the world were established in this studio. Today, while names like Michael Che, Mikey Day, Chloe Fineman, and Marcello Hernández continue to carry on this tradition, each episode takes on a new dimension with a different celebrity guest host. The magic of the program doesn't just lie in making people laugh. It has unexpected moments brought by live broadcasting, an originality that artists do not have to be without mistakes, a rare television experience in which the audience shares the excitement of being there at that moment. Each chapter is a risk, an experiment, and a momentary creation within itself. To describe a production that has become such a deeply ingrained part of cultural memory as merely "entertainment" would be an understatement. This scene, reflecting the smiles, anxieties, and hopes of dozens of generations, pushes the boundaries of television once again every Saturday night.

It was good, then it was great, then it was good again and now it stinks. As of 2018 The edginess is gone. There are no risks in the jokes. They all consist of two things, 1. Trump is bad. and 2. This was a thing, remember it? Neither of those really work for me. Make fun of Trump all you want, but do it with a punch line. Most of the time they forget the punchline. Simply not liking him is NOT a punchline. You have to exaggerate something, make it satire, mock it in some way. I don't even...

Saturday Night Live will always be my comfort show. The longevity and influence SNL has had on the comedy scene is unmatched. It has been the catalyst for so many careers, e.g. Eddie Murphy, Bill Murray, Will Ferrell etc... The show has definitely had its ups and downs but, in taking a step back it is evident that the show has remained consistently mixed in it entire run. Not every season has had great writers or talent, some actors have been much more successful than others, and yet it has...
