Fringe
Details
Some stories gradually draw you in; first with superficial curiosity, then with deep devotion, and finally with an obsession from which there is no escape. This production, which premiered in 2008 and captivated audiences for five seasons, offers exactly such an experience to its viewers. J.J. The series, signed by Abrams, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, begins with a fiction that is familiar at first glance: a secret FBI unit investigating unusual events, mysterious cases, moments when scientific explanations are insufficient. However, something much more layered and bolder is being built on this unusual foundation. Although telekinesis, teleportation, mind control and speculative ideas about parallel universes, called "fringe science", form the skeleton of the series, the real power is hidden in a completely different place. Three characters stand at the center of the narrative, and this trio forms one of the best-formed teams in television history. Olivia Dunham, played by Anna Torv, is a strong but tired woman who harbors deep vulnerabilities behind her composure, while Joshua Jackson's Peter Bishop is always hiding a secret under that bright intelligence. The true spirit of the series is embodied by Walter Bishop, brought to life by John Noble's magnificent performance. This character, ingenious yet flawed, humorous yet tragic, takes over the screen completely every time he appears, both making the audience laugh and affecting them deeply. As the series progresses, the story goes far beyond the ordinary thriller format. Questions about parallel universes, identity, memory, and the limits of humanity are becoming increasingly pressing. Moral dilemmas become more acute, and characters' reckoning with their pasts becomes inevitable. When you reach the fifth season, you realize how far away you are from the point where you started, and you see that every moment of this journey serves a purpose. Fringe appeals not only to lovers of science fiction, but also to everyone who is interested in intense dramas about human relationships, feelings of guilt and sacrifice. This production, which is sometimes dark, sometimes humorous, always intriguing, is among the kind of stories that continue to echo in the minds after Dec.

No, it's not a remake of The X-Files. This show is delightfully strange, has a great lineup of characters and shows great imagination. I was hooked...until season 4 when things began to wane. And then season 5 which was abysmal. So much so I couldn't watch the season right to the end. Such a shame.
