The Penguin
Details
The dark streets of Gotham have always been the domain of the cleverest survivor, not the mightiest. Oswald Cobblepot, brought to life by Colin Farrell under unrecognizable makeup, is a character who embodies precisely this reality. For those who have briefly known him before in "The Batman", this series shows that this dark figure is not just a scene filler, but rather can form the center of a complete universe of his own. Created by Lauren LEFRANC, this eight-part miniseries is not a superhero story; it is a rise saga kneaded with a highly human, ambition and survival motive. A major gap in Gotham's criminal underworld represents both a threat and an opportunity for Oz. But this path becomes as complex as it is paved with rivals and betrayals, also complicated by the character's own internal contradictions. One of the most striking aspects of the series is the tension established through the character of Sofia Falcone, played by Cristin Milioti. The clash of two power centers creates an electrifying atmosphere in every scene. Milioti delivers such a compelling performance in this role that she manages to dazzle even in the presence of Farrell's near-forgettable acting. The side story, which Decodes the mother and son dynamic, adds an unexpected emotional depth to the series; it makes the viewer question the fine line between crime and commitment. From the point of view of visual language, the series positions Gotham not as a fantasy city, but as a realistic, but still gothic metropolis, where decay seeps into every corner. This choice makes it easier for the story to carry its weight. Violence is portrayed here not as sensational but as something that has consequences and comes at a cost. The Penguin does not present the audience with a simple villain story. Instead, it makes us question how slippery moral boundaries are and how much of a person's monstrosity stems from their own choices as much as their environment. The pace never slows down throughout the eight episodes; each episode necessitates the next. This is a must-watch production for both those interested in the DC universe and those looking for quality crime dramas.

**The Penguin: A Gripping Journey into the Ruthless Rise of a True Villain** I am writing this review after just finishing watching the first and probably only season of "The Penguin" today. For me, it's an 8/10 (which, on my scale, is a very good rating, though on IMDb that’s more like a 9/10). It’s an HBO series. While it’s not perfect (but what is, really?), I think the series is very, very well done. I don’t expect there to be a second season, nor is there a need for one; it works perfect...
