For those who think that giving up on life is an easy way out, Korean television holds up a rare, hard, and honest mirror. This production, directed by Ha Byung-hoon, skillfully blends both its fantastic universe and very human questions with its structure adapted from a popular webtoon. The story centers around a young man who believes that he has lost everything and cannot find a reason worth living. However, what awaits him after death is neither peace nor nothingness. Confronted with death itself, a mysterious and cold being, the hero faces an unexpected punishment: living twelve completely different lives, one of which begins before the other ends, and experiencing death again in each one. Each body carries a new identity, a new pain and a new perspective. The most powerful aspect of the production is that it does not use this fantastic fiction as a mere means of demonstration. Each rebirth actually makes you ask another question: Does life look different when viewed through someone else's eyes? Can pain have any meaning? Have the things we thought we lost really disappeared? These questions take the narrative far beyond an action sequence and force the audience to transform with the character. Seo In-guk takes on this role, which is extremely demanding both physically and emotionally, with great aptitude. While the transitions to different bodies may technically complicate the narrative, the production manages these transitions without breaking the rhythm or losing credibility. Park So-dam, on the other hand, appears on the screen with a brief but effective presence and leaves a permanent mark in every scene. Visual language also integrates with the narrative. Cold tones, limited use of light, and compositions that occasionally turn into symbolic frames make the audience feel the existential squeeze the character is in. Music supports this atmosphere rather than surrounding it; It never feels too much. This eight-episode production does not hesitate to ask the most fundamental questions about life. It questions not death, but what we risk missing. After watching it, you may find yourself feeling both heavy and mysteriously light.
