This South African-produced series sits right at the heart of this questioning and holds up a mirror to us that is both familiar and profoundly unsettling. Joyce presents a carefully crafted marriage proposal to her thousands of followers every day. The photos are flawless, the captions are inspiring, the comments are full of praise. She is the perfect match for the modern age; at least that's what everyone knows. However, behind the screens, a completely different reality is trying to make its way into existence. Her husband's infidelity begins to shake not only Joyce's private life but also the very fabric of her existence. Because they will not only have to face the risk of losing a spouse, but also the risk of having the identity they have built crumble. Gugu Gumede strikes a rather fine balance when playing Joyce. It allows the viewer to both sympathize and question from time to time. S'dumo Mtshali and Kwanele Mthethwa also add different pressure points to the story, so that the series goes far beyond a one-dimensional deception melodrama.
