The Goldbergs
Details
America in the 1980s seems almost like a fairy tale when viewed from today's perspective. There are no cell phones, no social media; everything is louder, but also more genuine and direct. The Goldberg family, living in a run-of-the-mill neighborhood in Pennsylvania, manages to portray this very period both humorously and tenderly. This sitcom, which we watch from the perspective of Adam, the youngest member of the family, goes far beyond being a mere nostalgia show. The life reflected on Little Adam's camera overflows with sibling quarrels, the joyfully knitted pressure of an overprotective mother, a sullen but tender-hearted father and the presence of a charming grandfather who is the compass of the whole family. All these figures evoke both laughter and a strange sense of warmth in the viewer, because each of them evokes a familiar face from his own family. The character Beverly, portrayed by Wendi McLendon-Covey, is undoubtedly the heart and dynamo of the series. She so deftly exhibits both funny, disturbing and deeply familiar dimensions of uninhibited maternal love that from time to time the viewer finds himself asking, "Is this my mother?" he finds himself thinking. On the other hand, Troy Gentile and Hayley Orrantia reflect the dynamics of brotherhood with such realistic energy that what you see on the screen ceases to be fiction and evokes an almost documentary feeling. The series should be read not Decently as a revival of the period, but as a story of how a family can love each other, how they can drive each other crazy and how they can stay together despite all this. References to 80s pop culture spice up this backdrop; but the real point is to remind us that people, not time, don't change. Surviving for ten seasons is testament to significant viewer loyalty. The Goldbergs touches on important themes without realizing it while making us laugh in every episode. Under the guise of comedy, it tells about being a family, growing up and those left behind. It looks light, but after watching it, it stays inside you for a while.
