The Mentalist
Details
When the mind becomes a weapon, cases that the police cannot solve become child's play. The meticulous and rule-bound team of the California Bureau of Investigation, together with their new consultants who have joined them, have to Decipher both the way they do business and the limits of the concept of "observing" from the beginning. Patrick Jane is a man who tries to leave his past behind but lives right in the midst of it. What his career as a fake psychic has taught him is not how easy it is to deceive people, but rather how much people give up, how they admit without realizing it. That millisecond flicker in the eyes of the suspect across a table, the rhythm of his fingers tapping on the table as his voice chokes, the fear he hides behind the words he chooses... Jane reads these not with the discipline of a detective, but with the intuition of an artist. This makes him both the most valuable member of the team and the biggest troublemaker. This universe created by Bruno Heller appears on the surface to be a classic crime series, but deep down it harbors something much darker and more personal. While each chapter presents a self-contained puzzle, a story of reckoning quietly unfolds in the background. Red John is not merely a serial killer; he is an obsession that has become both the reason and meaning of Jane's existence. This tension is the primary source of power that kept the series afloat for seven seasons. Jane, played by Simon Baker, stands out as one of the most unique characters in television history. This performance, which can look dangerous even when drinking tea, skillfully hides pain behind its smile, forms one of those rare bonds it establishes with the audience; you get sad and laugh and get slightly angry at it because it is one step ahead of you in every scene. Among the structures that question crime series habits, blend intelligence with entertainment, and manage to put the character's inner world at the center of the story, The Mentalist still stands Decently in its rightful place. Some cases are closed, but some wounds never heal.

This show takes four or five episodes to establish itself but once all the characters find their place and Simon Baker gets comfortable playing Jane you get utterly absorbed in this world. The mind games Jane plays are intriguing, the continuing Red John theme keeps you guessing and the uncertainty of trust in Jane's motives adds perfect tension. Unfortunately, the expansion and revelation of Red John in the last seasons dilute the quality of the show somewhat.
