Steven Universe
Details
On the quiet shores of Beach City, right in the middle of ordinary town life, an extraordinary growth story begins to blossom. Little Steven, a half-human, half-alien being, lives in a house filled with attic space with three powerful guardians known as the Crystal Gems. But this arrangement goes far beyond a simple family tableau; it invites a universe to the door that gradually opens its emotional layers in each episode, making the audience laugh and think deeply. This work by Rebecca Sugar masterfully pushes the boundaries of children's animation. Although it may appear on the surface to be a colorful adventure series, the themes it embodies are much more universal and dominant. The search for identity, empathy, grief, the sense of belonging, and the transformative power of love are woven into the fabric of each episode. While carrying on the legacy of those who came before him, Steven must confront both their expectations and his own struggle to discover his true self. This internal conflict makes the series appealing not only to children but also to viewers of all ages who are trying to come to terms with their past. Perhaps one of the most striking aspects of the series is that it insists that love is not just an emotion; it is a concrete, powerful and sometimes painful action. The relationships between the characters are warm and believable; each one harbors unexpected depths in their background. The production, which was far ahead of its time in terms of LGBTQ+ representation, presents these identity issues not as an end in itself but as an organic part of the story. This approach makes the series not only inclusive but also sincere. Music is not just an ordinary accompaniment in this universe either; original pieces that express the emotional states of the characters, sometimes an inner voice, sometimes a farewell, sometimes reconciliation feed the spirit of the series. Steven Universe, with its fast-paced, short episodes lasting approximately eleven minutes each, leaves its mark while questioning what makes a hero and what makes a human being. Their responses, however, are surprisingly delicate and hopeful.

The PPG reboot opened up my frustration over the current state of Cartoon Network Studios, and overtime my enjoyment of We Bare Bears and Steven Universe has sunk not just because of spoilers, but because they represent the state of their production studio in this age - diverse in every aspect but style. Ever since hipster 20-somethings with a passion for memes and existentialism took control, I felt like the only one who could feel his childhood slowly starting to melt, and not realise it until...

One of the best children's animations, by delving into complex, difficult topics without speaking down to it's audience, it does a good job at engaging with & teaching younger kids while keeping interest with older audiences as well. Continues the trend of the best queer representation being done in children's animation
