The Twilight Zone
Details
Some works shape not only their own era but also everything that comes after them. This legendary anthology series, brought to life by Rod Serling in 1959, still breathes with the same vitality today as perhaps the boldest and longest-running experiment in the history of television. Each episode, which fits into about twenty-five minutes, pulls the viewer out of the usual reality and whispers about how fragile the world he thinks he is familiar is based on. Serling's ingenious choice was to build a new universe from scratch in each episode. There is no fixed cast, no recurring characters; only different stories and the people who get lost, transformed, or destroyed within those stories. From space travel to robotics, from time travel to paranormal events, from wishes to second chances, each episode offers a different short film experience in this wide range. However, this diversity is not superficial showmanship; on the contrary, it is a calculated tool for exploring different breaking points in human nature. The real strength of the series lies in the fact that it doesn't use science fiction and thriller elements merely to create atmosphere. Every alien invasion is actually a criticism of xenophobia, every robot story is an inquiry into identity and humanity, and every dystopian scenario is a mirror of the political and social tensions of the period. Filmed in the shadow of the Cold War, these episodes manage to blend fear and curiosity in equal measure, making the viewer think while entertaining, disturbing while entertaining. Rod Serling's appearance on screen to personally present the episode itself became an iconic ritual in its own right over time. That cool-headed, almost mischievous tone of narration expertly strikes the delicate balance between reassuring the audience and creating mystery. Every time you enter the screen, it's almost like "Are you ready?" he asks. This series, which has been tirelessly feeding the same quality curiosity for five seasons and more than one hundred and fifty-six episodes, it is impossible not to be surprised how time has preserved it when watched today. Because the things he tells me are still knocking on the door like an uninvited overnight guest.

Yeah, some of the Fx stand the test of time don't they? Shocking given that this was made in the early 60s. And because it was made in the early 60s it certainly has the most moralistic bent to it, and for a series like The Twilight Zone, it works and it sets it apart from all the revivals made to date. Sure, yeah, the 2019 has a "moralistic" side as well, certainly more than the 80s and 00s revivals, but the 2019 morals are more... propagandist, more hateful. This version, the morals a...
