Some stories are difficult to explain exactly why they affect people so deeply. Reply 1988 is just such a work; watching it, you can't help asking yourself: do I love these characters, or is it that world in which I disappear into them? Set in one of Seoul's narrow streets, this series revolves around the shared lives of five neighboring families, recreating South Korea in 1988. But the real success here lies in going far beyond period reconstruction. The costumes, music and street texture you see on the screen are not just a backdrop; they are a backdrop that shapes the spirit of the characters and feeds their hopes and vulnerabilities. At a time when the Seoul Olympics of 1988 are trembling with excitement, five young people are trying to hold both the throes of growing up and the last crumbs of childhood in their palms. The heart of the series beats in the relationships between the characters. The friendship between five young people becomes so complex over time that as an observer, you find it difficult to take a step back and sort out your emotions. Who loves whom, who fails to notice this love, and which chance encounter will gain meaning years later? Instead of answering these questions, the series invites you to experience the moment itself. And over time, this invitation transforms into an irresistible pull. The parents' story, however, does not remain overshadowed by the teenagers' story; on the contrary, it constitutes one of the most unexpected and most shocking layers of the series. These portraits of adults, depicting how they care for their children while sacrificing their own dreams, can sometimes silently move the viewer to tears. Reply 1988 is not a nostalgia exercise; on the contrary, it poses a very universal question: How much value do we place on fleeting moments at that very moment? Over the course of twenty episodes, it builds the answer to this question without ever asking it directly, but by making it felt in every scene. This series, which is also an excellent gateway to South Korean productions for foreign audiences, leaves behind not only a story when it ends, but a feeling that lives inside you for a long time.

I had heard that the reply series was really interesting and reply 1988 was so unbelieve-ably-damn good. The Park Bo Gum , Hyeri and all the others did a really great job. Gamshamhida to them, for that.
