Anne with an E
Details
Set in rural Canada during the nineteenth century, this series draws inspiration from Lucy Maud Montgomery's legendary novel and brings it to life with a completely different depth. Unlike many classic screen adaptations, this production boldly delves into the inner world of the character; it is not content with just presenting a nostalgic period drama, it tells something much harsher and much more intimate. At first glance, Anne's world appears to be an innocent country fairy tale, adorned with green hills and floral scents. However, as soon as we step into the small town of Avonlea, it becomes clear that this story chooses to confront the difficulties a girl faces rather than romanticize them. Coming from a childhood spent in foster homes and leaving traces, Anne Shirley stands with the most powerful weapon she has, even though she has nothing: imagination and an unquenchable joy of life. Amybeth McNulty's performance is one of the elements that takes the series far beyond a mere adaptation. The Anne she portrays is both fragile and irresistibly strong; she maintains that delicate balance in every scene. Alongside Geraldine James and R.H. Thomson's masterful portrayal of the characters Marilla and Matthew conveys that the concept of "family" is much broader than mere blood ties. The on-screen relationship between this trio creates an unexpected warmth for everyone watching the series. Creator Moira Walley-Beckett consciously maintains the pace. As the story progresses, the social issues, prejudices and themes of exclusion of the period are also touched upon; however, these never feel like a heavy burden. On the contrary, it flows naturally as part of a young mind's effort to make sense of the world. The series reminds us of what lies at the core of coming-of-age stories: belonging, being loved, and finding oneself. Witnessing this quest over the course of three seasons both excites the viewer and at times plunges them into deep sorrow. When it's over, you don't just feel like you watched a story; you feel like you truly accompanied someone's growth. This feeling is the purest sign of good storytelling.

I really cannot understand for the life of me how any one would really dislike this charming retelling of Anne of green Gable. It seriously beat the other recent adaptation with Martin Sheen in every category. The actors are all pitch perfect in their role. What this version does better then any other version I seen before is the way it showed Ann struggling to fit in Avonlea. Episode 3 was a hard watch because it basically showed Ann being bullied and judged by all the Avonlea resident.Other ve...
