Carrying the weight of a forbidden love means struggling with both moral and social boundaries. This Portuguese-produced series reveals in a very bold language how a person can come to terms with his conscience, while tracing a feeling that blooms on this fragile ground. At the center of the story is the figure of a young and idealistic woman who starts working for an old and sick man. This caregiver-patient relationship, which seems ordinary at first glance, turns into an unexpected closeness over time. Paula, played by Joana Ribeiro, appears on the screen as a character surrounded by both internal and external pressures; the viewer tries to understand him rather than judge him. The series builds dramatic tension not with big surprises, but with silent glances and what is not said. This relationship, which contradicts Portugal's deep-rooted social values, causes the characters to enter into not only emotional but also existential questioning. Here, the word forbidden ceases to be a simple label and turns into a deep dialogue with the audience. However, the series has difficulty maintaining its pace from time to time, and in some episodes the narrative feels diluted. The thirteen-episode structure has moments where it overextends the story. Nevertheless, Joana Ribeiro's performance and the unique visual language of the Portuguese atmosphere are among the strongest elements that keep the audience on the screen. It is an interesting option for those who are interested in the drama genre and who like slow-moving but thought-provoking structures.
